The Annuaki are a group of deities from the ancient Mesopotamian cultures (around 3000BC where Syria, Turkey and Iran are today).
The Sumerians, Akkadians and Assyrians are all part of the Mesopotamian cultures of pre-Christ empires. The Annuaki appear in many of the few remaining stories from this time but what do they mean to us today – apart from being an interesting cultural recording?
According to ancient Mesopotamian mythology, Anunnaki is a word which means: “Princely Offspring” and ‘Those of Royal blood’ and not the false ‘from Heaven to Earth’ as some people thought. Anu is the supreme deity in the Sumerian belief system. Ki is the goddess of the Earth. The offspring of Anu and Ki are called the Anunnaki. Instead of thinking in terms of black and white, it is useful to realize that Anu and Ki should be thought of metaphorically as the people from the sky and the planet itself, respectively. The Anunnaki are then simply the children which Anu created on planet Ki. The Anunnaki were served by the Igigi until the Igigi revolted, forcing the Anunnaki to create Mankind. These servants were not slaves; they were held in high regard, and they were created only to relieve the gods of their labour. In the beginning, Mankind had no set lifespan, and so the gods could only control overpopulation via flood, plague, and famine. During the final deluge, the gods wept at the suffering of Mankind, and so Man was given a set lifespan. It is during this deluge that Ziusudra (Noah) survived with his wife on the ark. The story of the final flood can be found in Atra-Hasis and the Epic of Gilgamesh (source).
Effectively, there are people today believe that these Annunaki are responsible for the creation of the human race. There are a number of different mythos that subscribe to this theory, be it associated with the Annunaki or some other named pre-history culture. Many use this theory of a past advanced-knowledged culture to explain how the Pyramids were built as well as Stonehenge and the Moai of Easter Island.
As a theory, it has a quality of simplicity about it that lends itself to belief. It may be there was an ancient culture that had advanced knowledge for the time. There have been questions asked as to how ancient stone carvings found in different parts of the world have a high degree of visual similarities to people from other parts of the world.
As researchers find further evidence that our modern human history is a lot older than initially thought they may one day find conclusive evidence of this advanced culture and may be even the mysteries they taught.
